The Kigezi Home Of Orphans Project
Community Garden |
BACKGROUND OF THE PROJECT
Kigezi Home of Orphans Project is a community based project operating in Kanungu District. It is registered as a community based organization under Registration Number 519/12.
The major aim of the project include providing Vocational Training, educating Orphans on the dangers of HIV/AIDS, encouraging self reliance to the Orphans and develop Orphans economically, socially and religiously.
In Uganda and Africa in General Orphans and Vulnerable Children are always neglected and considered to be misfits within the community and also their areas of origin. This is because they are pressured to be failures in the future as they do not have hope and encouragement in whatever they will be doing.
Most of the Orphans and the Vulnerable children do not have accommodation meals, and other basic needs to enable them have the best standards of living and also become comfortable in whatever they are doing.
Because of lack of hope and encouragement most Orphans have resorted to petty jobs such as house boys, shamba boys for the males.
The girls have become house girls and also married off at younger age.
Most of the Orphans have become rare and disorderly which has made boys to engage in Drug abuse such as smoking marijuana, opium and other gambling activities.
The females have resorted to prostitution leading to unwanted pregnancies and the wide spread of other sexually transmitted diseases.
Because the orphans and vulnerable children do not have homes of their own, they have been forced to become street children which has made them to be threats to the community and also in the areas they are staying in.
This has been because they do a lot of crime such as murder, robbery and hijacking all the people in the community by doing terrorism activities.
Most Orphans and vulnerable children have not been able to get quality and good education as they can not afford school fees and other scholastic materials. This has led to a high rate of school drop out and there by leading to the high levels of illiteracy.
Because of all the above most of the Orphans do not have skills and any education they have not been able to be socially, economically and religiously empowered which have made them to be extremely poor in terms of material and physical resources, are socially misfit, an neglected and have not been to participate in any religious affiliation or activity thereby making them outcasts.
Basing on the above therefore Kigezi Home of Orphans Project came up with the proposal and idea of bring all of them together in order to share common goods of promoting social economic activities, education support, eradication of diseases such as HIV/AIDS and malaria and also through supporting agriculture with aim of increasing household income and also food security.
This has been based on the vision of ensuring that there is improvement on the welfare of the orphans and vulnerable children by equipping them with the vocational skills so that they may be able to get the basic needs of life in line with food, shelter, clothes education and medical care.
It was based upon such facts that Kigezi Home of Orphans Project was born in order to facilitate the welfare and standards of living of the orphans and vulnerable children within Katojo parish, Rutenga sub-county, Kanungu District, South Western Uganda.
Kigezi Home of Orphans has the field office in Katojo Parish, Rutenga Sub-county Kanungu District for the programme implementation of the project activities and also the regional offices in Kabale Municipality Kigezi Twimukye Building Floor 2
Room 9.
